The Titanic!

In class we have been studying about the Titanic - did you know it is 100years since the disaster, we created passenger guides for the boat and had an expert speaker share a presentation about the Titanic with us. It has been very interesting.

Year 5 to show all of your new found knowledge answer these questions about the Titanic:

1.     The Titanic was completed at a cost of?
2.     The sister ship of the Titanic was?
3.      The human capactiy of the Titanic was?
4.      When did the Titanic sail and sink?
5.      Did divers swim down to look at the Titanic? Why/why not?
6.      The first lifeboats to leave were not full – why do you think they left with empty spaces on them?
7.      Why do you think these boats didn’t go back to help other people? Can their actions be justified?
8.      Do you think the policy of ‘women and children first’ is a good/fair idea? Why/why not?
9.      What do you notice about the number of casualties in each class? Why do you think this is the case?
10.  Do you think anyone is to blame for the disaster? If so who; the captain for going too fast? The people who ignored the iceberg warnings? The lookout for not seeing the iceberg earlier? The shipmaker for not putting enough lifeboats on board? The people who used half empty lifeboats?

    5. Yes they did dive to the titanic. The divers probably went down to find the titanic because it is a huge sensation and is very valuble to find.
6.I think they left empty spaces because the people in the life boats were scared and wanted to get away from the wreck.
7.They didnt go to save them because eigher the people inside were scared and selfish and wanted to go away or the current was too strong and couldnt and that means that it is not their fault that they couldnt go back.
8.The woman and children first is explainable but still unfair. I think that all people should be treated equally but i think that children should go first because they have just started life and need to live it.
9.I noticed that the casualities in third and second class were much larger than in first class. For instance only one man died in first class while more than a hundred in third class.
    10. A couple of people are to blame but the captin WAS going too fast, the radio operator SHOULD have checked his income messages and the shipmaker (Harland and Wolff) SHOULD have put more lifeboats on the boat.
