Sound!

Hello Year 5, Following your afternoon learning about sound I expect you are all experts in the subject by now! Share your learning by answering some of the questions below.

1) If a tree falls in a forest and no-one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? Explain your answer
2) Could you hear sounds on the moon?
3) Does sound always travel the same speed? if not which materials does it travel quickest through?
4) What does pitch mean in relation to sound?
5) How can we change the pitch of a sound?
6) Which 2 parts of the body do we use for hearing?
7) Write an interesting fact you have discovered about sound

  1. 1. Yes, just no one hears it.
    2.No because sound needs someting to go on like water or air and their isn't any air or water.
    3.No because it travels quicker when higher the sound and it goes quicker through gas.
    4.It means that you say it hidher or lower.

  2. 1. Yes it It makes a sound and you don`t have to hear it, but it is still a sound.
    2. No, because there is no air.
    3. No it travels quickest on the high pitch.
    4. Pitch means that sound is higher or lower.
    5. When you make things shorter, they make a quicker and louder sound and when you do it longer, it will make long and quieter sound.
    6. Ear and brain.
    7. Deep In your ear you have special hairs that make you hear and if you listen to too loud sounds it can damidge them.

  3. 1.Yes it still makes a sound beacause vibrates with the sound waves.2.You can't hear sound on the moon beacause there is no air.3.It doesn't travel the same speed because if it's a low pitch it will go slower and if it's higher it will go
    quicker.4.It means low and high pitch.5.You make it shorter or longer.6.You use your two ears.7Sound is a energy but not renewable or non renewable.

    3.Sound doesnt travel always the same because smaller thing vibrate faster and bigger things vibrate slower.
    4.A pitch is a high and a low sound.

    3.the sound from your mouth can travel at lots of speeds on the moon it would travel faster.
    4. pitch means the way you say it as how loud it is.
    5. talk deeper or talk higher.

    2.No, because there is no air on the moon, so there is no air to vibrate, and no vibration means no sound.

    3.Sound travels fastest through solids, and slowest throgh gases. Solids=5000mps Gases=340mps

    4.How high or low a sound is.

    5.We can change pitches by making them different lenghths. The shorter the higher, longer the lower.

    7.If you are underwater you get sound from 200m in 0.162 seconds, and on land 0.578 seconds.

  9. 1.Yes it does make a sound,it doesn't matter if no-one was there it still makes a sound.
    2.No because first the helmet would cover your face second there is no air in space so the sound waves can't travel anywhere.
    3.Sound doesn't always travel at the same speed high pitches travel faster than low pitches.

    2. Not unless you have a radio recciever inside your helmet
