Hello Big Writing group, following on from our study of the mystery today, I would like you to use your detective skills to try to explain what happened on Flannan Isle, remember to say how the evidence supports your idea and counter argue different theories.

ReplyDeletecoat because he thought he wansnt going to stay outside for long.He went to see if the weather was geting better ( because there was a storm ) and slipped near the clifside and fell without toching the cliff and got traped under the sea while the others were makeing a meal.Then lightning struck the island and the two othere men came outside to see what hapened and when they peered over the cliff at the very edge to see if they could find the man that fell the ground rumbled and a bit of the earth colapsed under their feet and then they fell and got stuck under the sea.by cillian
PS:When the two men came outside they knocked the chair over and didnt notice it and they didnt eat anything from their meal because they just finished cooking it when they decided to go outside

I think its an interesting theory but I have a question: When the men came looking for the three lighthouse keapers they said that everything was the same on the island like it was when they came to swich the keapers last time but you said "The ground rumbled and a bit of the earth colapsed under their feet"?I think that one tripped and held the other one but becauce the one who didnt trip wasnt ready they bought fell and go trapped under the see.

ReplyDeleteI have a theory about the lighthouse. It was a stormy night. Two keepers have an argument. Two of them had the coats on because before dinner they went on a watch. McArthur had an argument with Marshall. Then they tipped over the chair. They started to fight.
Eventually Marshall pointed with a knife on MacArthur. He murdered him. Then he had realized that he had killed his friend. He cleaned his blood. But where to hide him? He threw him to the ocean.
He went back to the lighthouse.
Marshall started to think to himself ... ,,After few weeks other keepers will come. They will find only 2 people...The first thing that James will do, he will tell to the police... I need to get rid of him!”
Suddenly he screamed,, Ohh, something is happening outside, a ship in a storm hit by thunder. I can see it threw the window. Emergency!”
Marshall and James Ducat went out. Ducat could not see anything. Marshall wanted to pitch Ducat down, but James was strong so he pulled Marshall down also. Everyone ended in the sea. Everyone died.
That is what I think happened on the lighthouse, a terrible lonely place at sea.

DeleteI think it is a exelent theory but I have a question: Wouldent the bodies flowt up an the people who came looking for the lighthouse keapers would see them?
DeleteThe men ran away because they were very scared. You think only babies and small children can be scared, but adults can be very frightened as well. Do you know about the disgusting pirates who steal gold and kill people? So our main characters were afraid that they will brake in, kill them and brake the light on the lighthouse, so that the ships would not see the coast and be shipwrecked.
ReplyDeleteTheir imagination suddenly made them think about the coldhearted pirates and they decided to run away. In the rush one of them knocked over the old wooden chair.
Just after they had cooked their delicious meal and sat to the table to eat it, suddenly they heard low and evil voices and they started to be confused and they ran away. That is how they were scared!!!
One of them was so frightened he almost jumped out of the window,but then he thought it will be better to go through the doors and in the moment he forgot about his boots and coat.
After that the three men swam towards the closest island that was next to the Flannan Isle,but very,very sadly sharks ate them. OH NO!!!

DeleteI think that one of the men wanted to see if the light in the lighthouse was working. He climbed up with his coat and boots while the other two were thinking about what they will have for dinner. AS one climbed up he was hit by lightning(no blood) and fell into the see got trapped under a cliff and stayed underwater(before the police came fish ate him or his body fell apart) as one of the men heard the splash he quickly put on his boots on while the last one started making dinner. He ran out to see what happened but slipped and because he saw were the one who fell of the lighthouse fell into the see he also got eaten by the fish. The last one made dinner and polightly waited for the others. But when they didn't come in a long he furiously ran out knocking the chair. When he went out to look for them he didn't take his coat or boots on. When he went out lightning hit him and because he was far from see (because of going to look for the others) he burned and the wind blowed away the ash. Thats what I think happened at Flannan Isle. by Matt R.

I believe that (according to the poem) the two colossal birds took them away to somewhere like:Iceland, Greenland or any reachable cold places from there. They were attacked by polar bears, tearing their bodies up to shreds.
ReplyDeleteThe two grand birds got there because it was a huge storm in Scotland and usually birds like hot weather and dropped them on the way.
The predators ate them up.
Probably the fist man was eaten first, since he only had a tee shirt and a pair of boots.
It was set all the way in the early nineteen hundreds so no blood would have been found since global warming wasn't so high.
The ice melted with the blood.
That's what happened to the three men on Flannen Isle.

This explanation is dramatic! I can picture what you are saying for example, "tearing their bodies to shreds" makes me see scraps of body everywhere.

And one of the two men thought that he could not be far away so he dident put his coat on, but the other man put his coat and boots on when they where looking for him the wind blow then to an other island alsow next to the Flannan Isle but evry men was on a diferent island.And after that the sharks ate them all up what a bad death from frank

Maybe they heard a strange noisefrom somewhere so went to hide but fell in a hole wich took them to the bottom of the sea as well as got stuck in seaweeds and never came back to the light.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they made wings ( like in Ikarus ,greek mith) and flu away or put black clothes on and went on the normal sized black birds and went on them wich made the black birds bigger.
Maybe they were not hungry so went to the side of the island but went to close to the sea and fell in... but swam to the closest island and stayed there but had no food and water so died. Then with the hard wind it rolled them down into a cave from the other island and no one ever saw them
I never read that story but I think it is intersting.
