Simon's new Highwayman verses

The mist spread on trees as the Highwayman flees from a guard and came dashing, dashing, dashing.

He came to the creaky old inn door and sneaked as sly as a fox to meet Bess that waits in her room.

Tim sees the thief and sends a letter to King George’s men that were already prepared for the Highwayman.

The Highwayman hears the clattering of the guards and hides under a pile of canvas…

King George’s guards charged in with Tim wright behind them and started searching every spec of the place and.

Then the thief peered through a hole and Bess told him to crawl out and run away.

The highwayman peeked again an sneaked out while they weren’t looking and Bess went with him and they never came back not even back to the country and went far, far, far away

Sebi's new Highwayman verses

The wind was a torrent of darkness upon the gusty tees,

His pockets filled with gold and fees.

And the highwayman came galloping, galloping, and galloping

The highwayman came galloping, up to the old inn door…

His gun loaded,

He was ready,

Prepared to make a scandal,

His horse steady,

Prepared to confess with the landlord’s daughter:

Bess

But unaware,

He was caught in Tim the Osler’s stare,

His stare was villainous,

His feelings were jealous,

Because he too loved the landlord’s daughter,

So he headed to the landlord’s quarter,

He called over King George’s men,

And they thoroughly inspected the massive den,

This was the Highwayman thought was his final moments of life to spend,

And he thought this was his end…

And he thought it was covered with scarlet uniforms,

Under all the cloudy storms,

The Highwayman’s gun went banging, banging, banging

The Highwayman’s gun went banging and spilling blood all over the floor,

They were dead for sure,

No, just one more,

Tim the Osler opened the door,

He was armed,

And uncharmed after what he had seen,

They agreed a showdown,

And the Highwayman lucky with one more round,

1, 2, 3, Crash!

The Highwayman lost,

However, in the window Bess somehow paid the cost,

Crash!

…Her rifle sounded,

Tim fell to the ground, and released a horrible sound,

And Bess later found,

That her beloved was alright,

And their marriage was a wonderful sight

The wind was a torrent of darkness upon the gusty trees,

His pocket filled with gold and fees…..

Mario's new Highwayman verses

The highwayman was dashing, dashing, dashing

In the moonlight

At last the highwayman came to the old inn –yard

The Landlord’s daughter was waiting for the highwayman

They discussed where they will go

Tim the oestler listened

He told the king Georges men were they will find the highwayman

Right away they went to capture the highwayman

They marched into the old inn –yard

They smashed the door behind them

They said nothing to Bess

They tied Bess up to her bed

She saw the dark path that the Highwayman would ride

The red coats laughed out loud

The king Georges men were at every dead window

They put a pistol before her

Then the highwayman came riding, riding, and riding

They heard him

He saw Bess tied up, he also saw the red coats

He started shooting the red coats he shot all of them

Then he got Bess and rode away with her

Gilbert's new Highwayman verses

They had bound her up at attention

Laughing their heads off like hyenas

Tying a rifle to her breast

With the barrel pointing at her

The landlords daughter struggled, struggled, struggled

The landlord’s daughter struggled until the highwayman arrived

She had a distraught look on her face

As she knew the soldiers would hear the highwayman on his horse.

The very tight knot that Bess could not get out of

Sweat and blood showed and she gave up instantly

Hours crawled by like decades

The brink of midnight came and still he did not come

But then the tip of her finger touched the trigger of the gun.

There he came riding, riding riding

There she shot herself

And he rode off as quick as lightning

To get away from the ‘danger’.

When The Highwayman heard his love had died

His face filled with grief in an instant

The highwayman rushed back yelling like a crazy man

Killing all the soldiers as he went and to see her who he loved …. dead.

The silhouette of houses like a ghost town

Ghosts filling the air

I am thinking about my loved one the highwayman I sacrificed my life for him

And how he managed to kill all those soldiers

I am so honoured that I loved such a courageous man.

Aika's new Highwayman verses

It was midnight at hollowing street,

The trees were like a statue,

And the Landlord’s daughter was sleeping,

As she was sleeping the Highway Man

Came pacing…., pacing…, pacing.. with his

horse,

He was pacing like a lion,

Soon Bess woke up from the

horses tapy tamp footsteps,

After when the H.M strolled to

Landlord’s house he took Bess,

like he was a burglar,

They ran as if the where running to save

their life because they didn’t want her dad to hear ,

Tim the old stupid ostler was staring

at them and he demanded at the soldiers

to come to the cafeteria ,

He was jealous  as Mr.Boardman,

After the H.M were in the cafeteria they

Gazed with stress at ………

……………..the soldiers

The soldiers wanted to kill

The H.M ,

After a while the soldiers killed the H.M,

And Bess was crying

Like her dad was dead

So then they moved to another place,

As the time she was 24 years she was in love with

Someone else and forgot about

The Highway Man.

The Highwayman Characters

 Hello Year 5,

To continue our work on the Highwayman, I want you to think about the characters of The Highwayman, Bess and Tim the Ostler.

Can you describe what kind of character they are and explain why they each choose the actions they do, use the poem and your inference skills to help you.

Some things to think about:

1) What kind of character is Tim?
2) What kind of character is Bess?
3) What kind of character is The Highwayman?
4) Why does Tim tell the soldiers about The Highwayman and Bess?
5) What do you think Tim's everyday life is like?
6) How do you think Bess feels about Tim the Ostler?
7) Does the Highwayman deserve any sympathy from the reader? if so why? if not why not?
8) Can you explain the way The Highwayman acts when he finds out what happened to Bess?
9) Who is to blame for what happens to Bess?
10) Who is to blame for what happens to The Highwayman
